Terrorists give Zamfara communities 4 days ultimatum to pay N37m
Terrorists operating as bandits on Wednesday gave seven communities in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State a four-day ultimatum to pay the sum of N37 million as ransom or risk being attacked by them.
A source who disclosed the development to newsmen said the communities include Bawagauga, Hayin Uda, Ruguza, Dumuyu, Zigau, Mai-Rerai and Gidan Kado.
The source who preferred to be anonymous because of the sensitive nature of the issue gave the name of the leader of the bandits as Hassan Bamamu.
He said that Bamamu had in the past signed a peace pact with the Zamfara state government and promised to stop the group’s activities.
According to the source, the terrorists asked residents of Bawagauga to pay N13 million, Hayin Uda, N7 million, Gidan Kado N6 million and Mai-Rerai, N4 million.
Also, residents of Ruguza, Dumuyu, and Zigau were asked to pay N2 million respectively.
Periscope International recalls that cases of communities being given ultimatum to pay ransom or risk attacks by terrorists have been on the rise in parts of Northwestern Nigeria where armed bandits operating as terrorists have held sway with government seeming helpless about the situation.
On many occasions, the communities have had to contribute money to pay to the terrorists in order to stay alive.
