U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed tech billionaire and the world’s richest man Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency.
Musk will be joined by American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, and together they will run the department.
A statement from the Trump transition team, outlines plans for Musk and Ramaswamy to work closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget.
The Department of Government Efficiency, described as the administration’s “Manhattan Project,” is envisioned to implement large-scale structural reforms within the government.
According to the statement, DOGE will aim to reduce redundant regulations, curb unnecessary expenditures, and drive a more entrepreneurial approach within federal operations.
Trump expressed confidence in the newly appointed leaders, highlighting their goal to reduce the annual 6.5 trillion dollars in federal spending.
Musk and Ramaswamy’s work is expected to conclude by July 4, 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Trump described this effort as a “perfect gift to America,” emphasising his commitment to a more efficient and accountable government.
Both Musk and Ramaswamy have expressed enthusiasm for the project, with Musk promising that their reforms will “send shockwaves through the system.”
