Women’s Day: Plateau Gov-elect lauds women, gifts widows N1m

Plateau State Gov-elect, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, has lauded women in the state and extolled their virtues, stressing that they are ambitious, hardworking and responsible.

Mutfwang made this known in Jos on Sunday, when he attended a special Mass held at St Monica’s Catholic Church, Rantya, to mark the 2023 World Union of Catholic Women’s Organization (WUCWO) Day.

The Gov-elect said research had shown that about 70% of rural agricultural activities were carried out by women, implying that women were responsible for feeding their families directly or augmenting the efforts of their husbands in family upkeep.

While identifying with the women on their special day, he called for unity in the church, stressing that the church is where peace and unity must start, and Church unity was critical to developing the Plateau State of everyone’s dreams.

“The task ahead is great. A united church can take us to our destiny and destination, the Plateau State of our collective dreams, where we will achieve purpose.

“Research has shown that about 70% of agricultural activities, especially in our rural areas, are  carried out by our virtuous hardworking women.

“This implies that women are directly responsible for feeding their own families or augmenting the efforts of their husbands in the family’s upkeep,” Mutfwang said.

The Gov-elect promised to deliberately carry women along in his government in various ways, adding that he would create a Plateau Women’s Anthem, similar to that of St Monica’s Catholic Church Women Organization, which rendition he found very impressive.

Periscope International’s correspondent reports that Mutfwang also donated the sum of one million naira in order to support the widows in the church in various ways as a practical demonstration of the importance he attaches to the womenfolk

Mutfwang was accompanied to the event by Mr Chris Hassan, Plateau State PDP Chairman, Mrs Esther Chundusu and Mr Timothy Dantong, Plateau House of Assembly Members, Jos Northwest and Riyom Constituencies, respectively, and Mrs Olivier Daziem, former Commissioner for Justice.

Others are Mr Abraham Yiljap, Director of Media of the Atiku-Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign Organisation, Mr Joshua Laven, former Chairman, Langtang North Local Government Area, Mr Sunday Rogo, a former General Manager, Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) among many other dignitaries.

Earlier, the officiating priest, Fr Gabriel Gowok, in his homily, noted that it was necessary to celebrate women globally because of the special role they play in moulding the society starting from the home front where they hold forth.
