Zamfara Senator dumps PDP purportedly for APC
The Senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Hassan Mohammad-Gusau, has tendered his resignation as a member of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.
His resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and read during the start of plenary on Tuesday.
Althogh Senator Gusau did not say which political party he was cross carpeting to, a reliable source said he was following in the footsteps of his state governor Matawalle who is to formally receives into the APC today.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Mr Lawan’s media aide, Ezrel Tabiowo, the lawmaker explained in the letter that his defection was informed by the “collapse” of PDP.
“My decision is necessitated by the collapse of internal democracy and factionalisation of the party from ward levels in Zamfara State.
“Further decisions on political movement and party affiliations will be communicated to this chamber in due course,” the statement quoted the Senator as saying.
