2 Ugandan army helicopters kill 22 after crashing in East Congo

Congo Army spokesman on Wednesday confirmed the death of

22 people have died after two Ugandan military helicopters crashed in East DRC.

The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) spokesman, Felix Kulayigye confirmed the helicopter crash .

He said, “There were fatalities, but I don’t have any extra details at the moment.

“The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has not yet told us the circumstances of the crash.”

Uganda had sent troops to Congo, its Central African neighbour in December, who have been  helping Congo to fight a violent rebel group known as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

The ADF is among several militias wrangling over land and resources in Congo’s mineral-rich east over the past decade.

Reuters reports that the conflict has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
