90-year-old racist woman tells Big Shaq, ‘Go Back to Africa’

    By Greg Kerry

One sunny afternoon, Big Shaq, known for his towering presence and fame as a basketball legend, decided to visit his usual corner store.

Despite his celebrity status and impressive physique—standing over two meters tall—he enjoyed the simple pleasure of grocery shopping.

It was his way of unwinding after long, demanding days.

Casually dressed in a gray t-shirt, jeans, and a shiny watch, Shaq strolled into the bustling store with his usual friendly demeanor.

The staff, familiar with his visits, greeted him warmly, and he returned their smiles as he picked up a basket and began walking through the aisles.

Stopping at the cereal section, Shaq browsed the shelves with focused attention, carefully reading labels to find something nutritious.

He was so absorbed in his task that he didn’t notice an elderly woman, Mrs. Margaret, approaching behind him. She was a petite lady with snow-white hair, leaning on a cane and pushing a squeaky cart.

“Excuse me, young man!” her voice rang out sharply. “How am I supposed to get my cereal when you’re standing in the way?”

Startled, Shaq turned around to face her. Seeing her stern expression, he quickly stepped aside with a polite smile. “Sorry about that, ma’am,” he said warmly.

But Mrs. Margaret wasn’t finished. Glancing up at him with a disapproving look, she muttered, “They’ll let anyone in here these days. No standards anymore.”

Her words carried a tone of prejudice that Shaq couldn’t ignore. Though her remark stung, he chose to remain calm, a principle he’d held onto throughout his life. With a deep breath, he resumed browsing, determined not to let her words ruin his day.

As Shaq moved to leave the aisle, Mrs. Margaret suddenly shouted, her voice loud and accusatory. “Security! Someone get security here now!”

The store fell silent as customers turned to see what was happening. A young security guard hurried over, looking bewildered. Mrs. Margaret pointed at Shaq with a trembling finger.

“Get him out of here! People like him don’t belong here. Send him back to Africa!”

Time seemed to stand still. Shaq stood motionless, processing the hateful words. Though his expression remained composed, the hurt was evident in his eyes.

He had faced prejudice before, but the blatant venom in her words was a painful reminder of the challenges he still endured.

The security guard hesitated, glancing between Mrs. Margaret and Shaq. “Ma’am,” he said carefully, “he hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s just shopping.”

Mrs. Margaret’s face flushed with anger. “Are you refusing to listen to me?” she demanded, banging her cane on the floor. “Get the manager!”

Moments later, the store manager arrived, looking serious. Mrs. Margaret wasted no time, pointing again at Shaq. “I want him out of this store. Now!”

Before the manager could respond, Shaq stepped forward. His deep, steady voice filled the aisle. “Ma’am,” he began, his tone calm but firm, “I understand that you may not be used to seeing someone like me here.

But I’m just here to shop, like you and everyone else. I’m a son, a friend, a hardworking man, and a citizen of this community. My skin color doesn’t change that.”

The store remained silent as Shaq continued, his words powerful yet full of grace. “I’ve faced comments like yours before. They’re hurtful, but I choose not to respond with anger. Instead, I feel sad—sad that someone who has lived as long as you have could hold onto such outdated views.”

Mrs. Margaret faltered, her eyes dropping to the floor. Shaq’s voice softened. “I have a grandmother about your age. She taught me to respect my elders because they’ve seen and experienced things I never will. But if she were here and heard the words you said to me, I think she’d feel disappointed.”

The room was heavy with emotion. A few shoppers wiped their eyes, moved by Shaq’s composure and sincerity.

“You’ve seen the world change,” Shaq said gently. “If your grandchildren heard what happened here today, would they be proud? Is this the legacy you want to leave behind?”

Mrs. Margaret’s hands trembled as tears welled in her eyes. Her voice quivered as she finally spoke. “I… I didn’t think of it that way. You’re right. I’m sorry.”

Shaq gave her a kind smile. “It’s okay, ma’am. We all make mistakes. What’s important is learning from them.”

The aisle erupted in applause. Mrs. Margaret reached out, placing a hand on Shaq’s arm. Her voice was now soft and genuine. “Thank you for teaching me this,” she said.

Shaq nodded. “We can all learn from one another. That’s how we grow.”

The tension in the store dissolved. The manager thanked Shaq for his grace, and customers approached to express their admiration. Even Mrs. Margaret, now visibly humbled, left with a warm smile.

As Shaq exited the store that evening, the golden sunset bathed the street in a peaceful glow. He felt a sense of fulfillment, knowing he had transformed a moment of hostility into one of understanding and humanity.

The story spread through the community, becoming a powerful reminder of compassion and forgiveness. Mrs. Margaret, once known for her biases, began greeting everyone with kindness, while Shaq continued to inspire others with his big heart and unshakable belief in the power of kindness.

An arsenal fan was killed in Uganda while celebrating the Gunners’ 2-0 win over rivals Manchester United in a Premier League game.

John Ssenyonga’s death was announced on Thursday in a report by BBC News.

The report stated that the late Arsenal fan was shot dead by a security guard in Uganda.

Another fan was reportedly injured as the guard opened fire on a large crowd of jubilant supporters at a restaurant in Lukaya town in Central Uganda, about 100km from the capital, Kampala.

It happened towards the end of the match, which Arsenal won 2-0.

A local journalist informed BBC that the building’s manager was angered by the noise that the jubilant fans were making and asked the guard to intervene.

“However, the fans did not heed a warning to quiet down,” the BBC quoted the local journalist as saying.

“Witnesses told the journalist, Farish Magembe, that the owner switched off the power in the restaurant, angering the fans, who responded by making even more noise.

“It was then that the guard allegedly opened fire, firing several shots. The victim, identified as 30-year-old John Ssenyonga, died at the scene.

Another long-term Arsenal fan, Lawrence Mugejera, was taken to hospital for treatment.”

According to the report, both the guard and the manager of the building fled for safety after the incident, with the police looking for them.

The regional police spokesman, Twaha Kasirye, was quoted by the Daily Monitor newspaper as saying that they had recovered a gun at the scene.

“We condemn the incident and we ask anyone with information that can help the police to bring the suspect to book to speak up,” Kasirye said, also urging fans to control their excitement.

  • Breaking: Ex-England national football team coach Eriksson is dead

Breaking: Ex-England national football team coach Eriksson is dead

Former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson has died at the age of 76.

A statement on his official website confirmed he died on Monday morning, surrounded by his family.

The Swede, who had been battling cancer, was the first foreign manager of the English national side, taking charge of 67 matches from 2001 to 2006.

He led England to the quarter-finals of three major tournaments in succession, including the World Cups of 2002 and 2006.

He was appointed after a successful career in club management, notably in Italy with Lazio.

Eriksson  returned to the World Cup with Ivory Coast in 2010 and also had spells in charge of Manchester City and Leicester, among stints in several other countries.

Eriksson won the Serie A title with Lazio in 1999-2000 to add to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup the previous season, also twice winning the Coppa Italia which he had previously lifted with Roma and Samp.

His time at Benfica brought three league titles, a domestic cup and two European finals and he led Gothenburg to UEFA Cup glory in 1982.

Eriksson’s life and career is the subject of a new Amazon Prime documentary which was released on Friday.

In it, the Swede talked about how he hoped to be remembered.

“I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do,” he said.

“Don’t be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it.”

The England fans’ group Free Lions were among the first to pay tribute, posting on X: “RIP Sven. For the night in Munich, amongst everything else, thank you for the memories.”

That was a reference to England’s incredible 5-1 victory over Germany in Munich in a World Cup qualifier back in September 2001.

Eriksson had succeeded Kevin Keegan as national team boss and inherited a talented squad featuring the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard.

Current Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham paid tribute to Eriksson on behalf of the governing body.

“This is a very sad day. He gave all England fans such special memories. No one can ever forget the 5-1 victory in Munich against Germany under Sven’s guidance,” Bullingham said.

“Sven will be rightly recognised and forever remembered for his significant work with the England team, and for his wider contribution to the game.

“On behalf of my colleagues at the FA, past and present, our thoughts are with his friends and family today.

He will be much missed, and we will pay tribute to him when we play Finland at Wembley next month.”

Eriksson revealed in January he had been told he had “best case” a year to live after being diagnosed with cancer.

There was a huge outpouring of support and love towards the Swede from former players and fans.

In March he was given the opportunity to coach his beloved Liverpool in a ‘Legends’ match at Anfield.

Eriksson said after the match: “To sit on the bench for Liverpool, that’s been my dream my whole life. Now it happened, and it was a beautiful day in all meanings.”

  • Turkey face Austria in Euro last-16 clash after Czechs defeat

Turkey face Austria in Euro last-16 clash after Czechs defeat

Turkey on Wednesday night overcame tough resistance from 10-man Czech Republic in a 2-1 victory at the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament.

Goals from Hakan Calhanoglu and Cenk Tosun were enough for them to set up a last-16 clash with Austria and send their opponents home.

The Czechs, quarter-finalists at the last European Championship, needed victory to stand any chance of advancing, but the 20th-minute dismissal of midfielder Antonin Barak for a harsh second yellow card was a blow to their attacking intent.

In a chaotic and heated end to the game, Czech Republic’s Tomas Chory was also given a red card in a melee seconds before the final whistle.

As well as the two reds, the referee also showed 16 yellow cards to set a new Euros disciplinary record.

Both teams pressed hard from the start in a raucous atmosphere on a hot night with Turkish fans marching to the game and outnumbering the Czechs thanks to their huge diaspora in Germany.

Thirty-year-old playmaker Calhanoglu’s 50th-minute goal was a first at his third Euros, triggering flares and delirium from fans.

He scored with a low shot across goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek who had appeared to hurt his shoulder with a save just before and went off injured after the goal.

Teenager Arda Guler inexplicably missed a close-range sitter to put Turkey two ahead and the Czechs immediately equalised, Tomas Soucek prodding home in the 66th minute after a long throw caused chaos to set up a thrilling finale.

Tosun struck Turkey’s winner in stoppage time, sparking wild scenes on his bench and among Turkish fans.

The result banished the Turks’ dark memories of Euro 2020 where they went home after conceding eight goals in three defeats.

“We all fought very well together,” said defender Mert Muldur. “We had a hard time against such teams in the past. I think we have improved ourselves.”

After two wins in three games, Turkey finished second behind Portugal in Group F on goal difference and will play Austria in the last 16 on July 2 in Leipzig.

“When we talked with our friends before the camp, our only target was to get out of the group.

We kept our promise and left the group. Now we will proceed step by step; we are very happy,” said Turkey winger Baris Alper Yilmaz.

The Czechs finished bottom of the group with one point.

“It is a disappointment because we all wanted to advance,” captain Soucek said, lamenting how the “disrespectful” soft red card had affected the game.

“We were happy to get the equaliser,” he added. “Everyone did the maximum. The morale was huge. Just a sad end. But that is football.”

Portugal, already guaranteed top place in the group but lost to Georgia who went through as one of the best third-placed finishers.

A Saudi Arabian billionaire has prepared a $15,000,000 (N2 billion) bid for the hat-trick ball of the 2023/24 Europa League final won by Nigeria’s footballer, Ademola Lookman of Italian Club, Atalanta.

Lookman and his teammates have all signed on the ball, which he was gifted following his hat-trick against Bayer 04 Leverkusen last Wednesday in the Europa League final.

It would be recalled that Atalanta roundly defeated their opponents 3-0 breaking Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s unbeaten record of more than fifty games.

Lookman scored all the goals in a heroic man-of-the-match display.

Whether Lookman will accept the tempting mouthwatering offer and part ways with the ball remains his personal decision and it remains to be seen.

The Nigerian international was also a hero of this year’s African Cup of Nations football competition in which Nigeria lost to the hosts Ivory Coast in the final by a lone goal.

Nigerian footballer attempts suicide as DNA proves 3 children not his

Nigerian footballer, Olanrewaju Kayode, is in shock as recently conducted DNA tests have revealed that he is not the father of his three children.

Local reports in Turkey where he plays professional football say Kayode has attempted suicide twice and terminated his football contract amid the development.

This development is said to be the fallout of a controversy involving the former Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine star and his estranged wife, Ezinne Kayode.

It was gathered that in the past months, his wife has been embroiled in multiple scandals involving fraud, adultery, and abduction, that shocked the nation.

Despite being seven years older than her husband, reports indicate that Ezinne had deceived Kayode about her age at the time of their marriage.

It was reported that one Yetunde Burstline had introduced Ezinne to one Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, who has been allegedly having an affair with Mrs Kayode.

According to the reports, Olanrewaju told the police that his wife also allegedly stole two Mercedes Benz SUVs from him to finance the lavish lifestyle of the Pastor and his associates.

It was learned that Ezinne also allegedly conspired with a realtor, Ugochukwu Igboanugo and his accomplices, Jennifer Nduaguibe and Lynda Anulika to transfer property ownership from Kayode to herself.

The latest negative DNA tests on his three children have further deepened the harrowing experience for the 31 year-old former Nigerian U-17, U-20  and U-23 forward.

The distraught soccer star is said to be currently living in fear for his life amid death threats from unknown individuals, including those within law enforcement circles.
