2023: Civil servant declares for Zamfara governorship
Alhaji Abu Nakwada, a Director in the Federal Civil Service, on Monday in Gusau declared his interest to contest for Zamfara Governorship election in the 2023 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP).
Nakwada, who was a Coordinator of the Nigeria Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme(SURE-P), made the declaration at a press conference in Gusau, the state capital.
He told his supporters that after consultations with critical stakeholders, he had made up his mind to answer the clarion call and contest for the post of Governor of Zamfara state.
According to him, he accepted the challenge to rescue the state and its people from current insecurity like banditry and kidnapping and to restore law and order.
The aspirant said he would focus on sustainable development efforts, especially in the agriculture sector which the state prides itself with.
Nakwada blamed the security crises in the state on lack of genuine leadership and good governance in the state.
He promised to resolve the social crises affecting the people, and set a genuine agenda for the transformation of the state if he wins at the polls.
” Insecurity situation has influenced virtually all other sectors of life; therefore our priorities have been set by the circumstances on the ground.
“We will give maximum attention to solving the security challenges before any other challenge.
“Findings have shown that most of our people live their daily lives with just the barest minimum, where they are burdened with too many challenges,” he said.
Nakwada said he would stand firm to revive education, create jobs and also strengthen the agricultural sector that would give hope to Zamfara people who are largely farmers.
The aspirant promised to work with the Zamfara Rescue Mission, a political pressure group to design an agenda that would truly respond to the critical socio-economic demand of the people.
“I wish to express my sincere appreciation for the overwhelming support to me since the beginning of this endeavour.
“I can only repay this kind gesture by ensuring that, visible improvements are achieved in your living standards once I get to the Government House in 2023 Insha Allah,” said Nakwada.
Nakwada becomes the second politician seeking to contest for the Zamfara governorship seat on the platform of the PDP.
The immediate past deputy governor, Alhaji Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, who is the son of the former National Security Advisor, retired Gen. Aliyu Gusau, also recently declared intention to run for the seat in 2023
