The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ahead of the 2023 general elections clarified that electronic transmission of election results remains unchanged.

Mr Festus Okoye, the head of public awareness of INEC, made the clarification  in a press statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Okoye’s clarification was necessitated by a story in a national daily on Saturday which quoted him as saying that INEC would compute results in next year’s general elections manually.

The INEC public affairs boss however said that he was misquoted by the newspaper in the interview he granted its reporter.

He added that the results transmission procedure which INEC adopted in its recent gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states were in consonance with the provisions of the Electoral Act at Sections 60, 62 and 64 and so to speak, cast in iron with the legal backing.

Okoye reassured that the procedure will still be used in the 2023 elections and allayed the fears of Nigerian voters on the issue.
