22 killed, 20 injured as truck crashes on Lapai–Lambata highway

No fewer than 22 people have been killed and 20 others injured in a lone crash involving a truck on the Lapai–Lambata highway in Niger State.

Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle, which was loaded with passengers and cattle, was heading to Lagos from Kano.

Most of the passengers, according to eyewitness accounts, were from Zamfara State and were travelling for commercial purposes.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Niger State, Aishat Saadu, confirmed the incident.

She said the crash happened around 3am and involved only one vehicle, a trailer. 

“The crash occurred around 0300hrs along the Lapai – Lambata route.

“It was a lone crash involving a truck.

42 people were involved. 22 died, 20 others were injured as of the time of rescue.

“The injured were taken to FMC Lambata, while the dead were taken to the General Hospital, Suleja,” she said.
