Court sacking of Plateau lawmakers a political ploy to muzzle opposition —Sen. Sani

Sen. Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna State, has described the recent sacking of all PDP lawmakers from Plateau State by the Court of Appeal as tragic and unjust.

The outspoken former lawmaker, who made this known in a post he shared on his official Twitter (X) handle, added that it was an unconscionable design aimed at reversing the victories of the opposition in Plateau State.

“Slowly, the Courts are unconscionably reversing the victories of the opposition in Plateau state; tragic,” Sani tweeted, among others.

Sen. Sani’s post elicited strong reactions from the public who expressed their disgust at the perceived injustice in the court rulings concerning the opposition victories in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain expressed his concern about the development, which he said was a threat to democracy, peace and security.

Meanwhile, one of the sacked lawmakers, Rep Musa Bagos, has said that no fewer than four people have died from the shock of the court’s decision in his constituency alone.

Bagos, a two-time lawmaker representing Jos East/ Jos South Constituency, who disclosed this while appearing on a live television program, took a swipe at the court’s perceived travesty of justice.

On Wednesday, in an unprecedented way, thousands of people took to the streets and highways in Plateau State to embark on a protest against the perceived judicial compromise, calling on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to sanction all culprits.

Gov Caleb Mutfwang has in response to the development, called on the people of the state to maintain the current fragile peace and security in the state and not take the law into their own hands.
