Breaking: Former Reps Speaker Ghali Na’Abba, is dead

A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has passed away at the age of 65.

Na’Abba died of an undisclosed ailment in the early hours of Wednesday, a family source said.

Ahmed Lawal, an aide to the deceased, also confirmed his death to the News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) in a telephone interview on Wednesday in Kano.

He said the former speaker died in the early hours of Wednesday at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Mr Na’Abba emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the April 1999 National Assembly election in Kano Municipal Federal Constituency of Kano state.

The deceased Kano State politician became Speaker of the House of Representatives a few months after the House’s inauguration in 1999.

He was the Fourth Republic’s second Speaker following the resignation of the first Speaker, Salisu Buhari amid a certificate forgery scandal.

He is survived by one wife, 10 children and three grandchildren.

As of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that arrangements were being made to transport the remains of the deceased to Kano for burial on Wednesday.
