Vice President Kashim Shettima has received the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, and her team at the State House, Abuja.
The UN delegation is in Nigeria as part of a region-wide consultation aimed at strengthening democracy and promoting partnerships in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Vice President commended the UN delegation for its efforts in addressing the world’s problems,
He specifically requested UNICEF to scale up nutrition interventions in the North-Western states of Sokoto and Zamfara, which have significantly high incidences of severe acute malnutrition.
Members of the delegation included the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simão; and United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall.
Others are Director for the Political Unit, Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG), Ciru Mwaura; and Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary-General, Hadiza Elayo.
