Hardship: Prison officer allegedly kills colleague over food

A Nigerian correctional officer stationed at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State has allegedly killed his friend and  fellow officer following a dispute over food.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

An eyewitness said that the quarrel between the two officials ensued when Kabiru (the suspect) brought food for lunch and Aliyu (the deceased) insisted on eating with him but the former refused.

The development subsequently led to a confrontation between the duo.

“They exchanged words, which quickly escalated into a fight.

“Kabiru (the suspect) headbutted Aliyu (the victim) making him to fall to the ground.

“The commotion attracted the attention of nearby people.

 “Aliyu was rushed to the General Hospital Burra, where he was later confirmed dead,” the eyewitness said.

Confirming the incident, Aminu Ahmed, the spokesperson of the NCoS Command in Bauchi, however, said the incident occurred outside the correctional services facility.

He said that the deceased, hailed from Giade local government area, while the suspect is from Dass local government area of the State.

Ahmed added that the body of the deceased had been handed over to his family for burial.
