No fewer than ten persons have been confirmed dead during a stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday, during the distribution of food items to vulnerable and elderly persons.
It was gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 6:30 am, claimed the lives of 10 individuals, including four children.
At least eight survivors escaped with varying degrees of injuries.
Four of the injured have been treated and discharged, while the remaining victims are receiving medical care.
The FCT Police Command in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, also confirmed the incident.
The command’s spokesperson sympathised with the families of the deceased and wished the injured speedy recovery.
