L-R: Fubara, Tinubu, Wike
By Temitope Hassan
President Bola Tinubu has resolved the prolonged political crisis in Rivers by reuniting the suspended Gov. Sim Fubara, his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and the state’s House of Assembly members.
The resolution of the crisis followed a meeting between President Tinubu and the aggrieved parties at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday night.
The development is contained in a post by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday morning.
The post on X reads in part: “Tinubu brokers Rivers peace talks.
“President Bola Tinubu hosted a reconciliation meeting on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together all the figures in the Rivers State political crisis.”
It would be recalled that Wike and Fubara have been embroiled in crisis for some time over the control of Rivers, with the situation spilling over to the State House of Assembly.
The impasse had led to a series of litigations with the Supreme Court resolving the case in favour of the lawmakers.
However, the Supreme Court judgment sparked another round of crisis with the lawmakers and Wike threatening to impeach the governor.
In March, President Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in the state after the situation threatened to get out of hand.
He suspended the governor, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly.
The President also nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as an Administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs.
