A group known as Lagos Prominent Indigenes has commended the Tinubu administration for what it described as a befitting state burial accorded to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari earlier this week.

In a press statement issued in Lagos and signed by elder statesman Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, the group said the burial arrangements reflected the deep respect and affection President Bola Tinubu had for his predecessor.

“Apart from demonstrating that President Tinubu is a true statesman and a committed nationalist of great repute,” Onitiri stated, “the seamless manner in which the burial was conducted helped foster genuine unity among all ethnic groups in Nigeria.”

Onitiri, who is the coordinator of the group, praised the President for swiftly dispatching Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to London to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria — a move the group described as “highly commendable and remarkable.”

Former President Muhammadu Buhari died at a London hospital on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

President Tinubu declared a week-long national mourning period, including a one-day public holiday, to allow Nigerians to honour the late leader. A special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) was also held in Buhari’s honour, and national flags were flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period.

The Lagos Prominent Indigenes extended their condolences to President Tinubu, the Buhari family, and the entire nation, praying that Almighty Allah grants the soul of the former president Aljanah Firdaus.
