Born in Zuru, the late monarch joined the Army on 10 Dec. 1962, and attended training courses both in Nigeria and abroad.

The first-class ruler was appointed military governor of Bauchi State after the Buhari 31 Dec. 1983 military coup.

He held office until August 1985, when Gen. Ibrahim Babangida overthrew the Buhari government in a bloodless palace coup.

The late Sami ascended the throne as the 11th Emir of Zuru in 1995.
