President Bola Tinubu has granted clemency/pardon to Maryam Sanda as part of a larger list of convicts pardoned.

In 2020, Maryam Sanda now aged 37 was found guilty of the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, at their Abuja residence and subsequently sentenced to death by hanging under the penal code.

Maryam spent about six years, eight months in prison at Suleja Medium Security Custodial Center.

She was included among 175 convicts (or ex-convicts) recommended for presidential clemency by the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

The grounds cited for her inclusion include her good conduct in prison, remorse, the welfare of her children, and her embrace of a reformed lifestyle.
