L-R: Kwallu, Dafaan, fresh battle for Reps seat beckons?
By Moses Pam
A former House of Reps Member, Rep. Isaac Kwallu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on which platform he won the election to the National Assembly in 2023.
Kwallu, who represented Shendam, Quaan-Pan, Mikang Federal Constituency between June and November 2023 before the Court of Appeal in a controversial judgment terminated his tenure, tendered his resignation letter on Monday.
In the resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Kwalla-Yitlar Ward of Quaan-Pan Local Government Area, and acknowledged by the chairman, Kwallu explained that he took the decision after a careful reflection on his personal values and beliefs, as well as the PDP’s seemingly endless internal crises at all levels.
Titled: “Letter of Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the letter reads in part as follows:
“I write to intimate you of my decision to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from this day of notice(10/11/2025).
“This decision comes after a careful reflection on my personal values and beliefs, and the party’s recent direction steep in internal crises which is at variance with my principles.
“I remain grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and the experiences I have gained within the party over the years.”
When contacted by our correspondent to confirm the authenticity of the news of his resignation, Kwallu confirmed the development, saying that he wished the PDP well even as he humbly parted ways with the party.
Kwallu, who insisted that he was robbed of his mandate at the Court of Appeal, also vowed to reclaim his seat in 2027, stressing that the mandate belongs to the constituents, who know who they voted for in 2023, and would repeat it in 2027.
The former lawmaker said he would soon decide on which political party to join, adding that even if he recontested the election on the platform of an ‘Independent Party,’ his followers would follow him there.
He described the court’s annulment of his victory as a “monumental travesty of justice, which is against the will of God and his constituents.”
The Ballot Box General, as he is popularly called, insisted that, as far as he is concerned, and in the eyes of his constituents, the mandate still belongs to him.
According to him, he won the Feb. 2023 election with a landslide by beating his main challenger, the incumbent, Rep John Dafaan, with a total vote difference of about 40,000.
“If I am alive in 2027 and I contest the election, I can assure you that I’ll retrieve my stolen ‘Divine Mandate’ because I’ll win again and again even if the election were to be conducted 1,000 times!
“I defeated him in all the three local government areas that make up the constituency; I also floored him in 31 out of the 32 federal wards, including his own ward.
“I also defeated him at the election petition tribunal but, strangely, the Court of Appeal, controversially and suspiciously, subverted the will of the people on spurious grounds,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dafaan of the APC, while reacting to the development when a copy of Kwallu’s resignation letter was sent to him, simply replied: “In law, was he ever a member of the House of Representatives?”
Constituents who spoke to our correspondent however said that Kwallu’s resignation from the PDP was a welcome development that would strengthen the APC, if he decides to join his former party.
Kwallu was elected as the Executive Chairman of Quaan-Pan Local Government Council on the APC’s platform but later defected to the PDP barely two months to the PDP Reps primary elections and surprisingly clinched the ticket with a landslide victory against all his opponents’ votes put together.
As 2027 draws nearer, many argue that Kwallu is the main man to watch and to beat by all the political parties in both the primary and general elections, irrespective of party affiliations.
