A High Court of Rivers State has issued an interim injunction, barring the Chief Judge of the State from receiving or acting on any impeachment notice forwarded to him by the State’s House of Assembly.

The restraining order followed a suit that was lodged before the court by the Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The Assembly, which is aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had earlier vowed to go ahead with the impeachment proceedings it initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Odu.

However, the court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice F. A. Fiberisima, barred the CJ from receiving any communication from the Rivers State House of Assembly for the purpose of setting up a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct the Assembly levelled against Fubara and his deputy.

The court equally okayed substituted service of the order by pasting all the processes at the gate of the Assembly complex.
