Sen. Nora Dadu’ut (APC-Plateau) on Thursday cheated death following an attack on her and members of her entourage in Namu town of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State by some hoodlums.

The senator was attacked shortly after she commissioned an ICT Centre/E-Library, which she constructed and equipped for the community.

The hoodlums burnt down a vehicle in the entourage of the senator, as well as a vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State council.

Our correspondent reports that the assailants who were armed with dangerous weapons also attacked the 14 journalsists who went to cover the event.

“They brandished dangerous weapons and blocked the lawmaker’s vehicle and started burning tires on the highway,” it was learned.

The hoodlums rejected the plea by some traditional rulers, who were present, to vacate the highway and allow the senator go.

The visibility angry young men who were mostly youths insisted that the senator must secure the release of some persons who were recently kidnapped in the community.

Reprieve came the way of the visibly shaken Sen Dadu’ut when troops of Operation Safe Haven, a military task force maintaining peace in the state and environs, came and rescued her after they were alerted about the incident.

Periscope International gathered that top government functionaries who were caught in the mayhem included the Plateau State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Musa Gyang and the Director-General of ICT in the State, Mr David Daser, who escaped unhurt.

Dadu’ut, a female professor of French language of the University of Jos, was literally handpicked by Gov Lalong for the by-election to replace Sen Ignatius Longjan, a former Deputy Governor of the state, who died in Feb. 2020.

Sen Dadu’ut was similarly attacked by hoodlums in her hometown during last year’s ward congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, where she escaped being lynched by the whiskers.

Meanwhile, following the incident, the authorities of Qua’an-Pan Local Government immediately announced an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew in Namu town and environs in a statement on Thursday evening.
