The police command in Benue has arraigned a 45 year-old-man, Jeremiah Ode from Igwe Ochekpo in Oju Local Government Area, LGA, of the state for allegedly killing of a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Priscilla Adoga, and beheading her head which he used for pepper soup.

The defendant was alleged to have committed the heinous crime while working on the woman’s farm, where he murdered her.

He was said to have been caught by locals who went searching for the victim.

It was gathered that when the deceased went missing, a search party of locals went searching for her, they met the defendant eating the woman’s head which he had cooked.

The Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Omaye Ujata, while arraigning Ode  before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, told the court that the incident which happened on Friday, Aug 19, was reported to the police by one Silas Igiri of Oju LGA.

He said, “The accused attacked the victim, his uncle’s wife, with a machete in a farm, where she was working at the time, and killed her after which he beheaded her.

“The accused in his statement confessed to committing the crime.”

No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Regina Alagh,, therefore, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Makurdi.

She adjourned the-case until November 11, 2022. for trial.

A family source who spoke with Periscope International under anonymity, however, claimed that Ode is suffering from mental dementia.
