Justice Babalakin, dead

A former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Bolarinwa Babalakin, is dead.

Babalakin, who retired as a Justice of the Supreme Court, died on Saturday morning at the ripe age of 94, a family source said.

The deceased was the father of billionaire businessman and lawyer, Wale Babalakin.

The late Babalakin was called to the London Bar in the late 1950s, and was a highly respected legal luminary who rose to the pinnacle of his career at Nigeria’s apex court.

He hailed from Gbongan in Osun State, Southwestern Nigeria, where he will be buried at 4pm on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late legal icon is survived by many children and grandchildren including Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN), Chairman, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Ltd, Architect Tayo Babalakin, among others.
