God’s General Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, is dead.
His family announced the demise of the patriarch who passed away at the age of 80.
A statement issued by the family on Monday confirmed the cleric’s death describing it as a “glorious transition.
The family said Rev. Ukpai devoted his life to Christian ministry and humanitarian work.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” the statement read.
“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” the family added.
They expressed gratitude for his life and ministry, noting that while they mourn his absence, they take solace in his “rest in eternal praise.”
Details of funeral arrangements, according to the statement, will be made public later.
Born on 7 Jan. 1945 in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Rev. Ukpai began his ministry after a challenging childhood marked by the loss of his father at the age of 10.
He later emerged as one of the leading voices in Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement and was among the founding figures of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
Through his ministry, he established faith-based institutions, including the Uma Ukpai Eye Centre, King of Kings Hospital, Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, and the Uma Ukpai School of Theology and Biblical Studies.
These institutions, alongside his various outreach initiatives, reflected his commitment to both spiritual growth and social impact.
Rev. Ukpai’s work, which spanned more than six decades, included evangelistic campaigns, leadership training, and welfare programmes aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
