The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Bagudo, has regained freedom after being held captive by gunmen for nine days.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Yakubu Tafida, announced the development in a statement on Sunday.
Tafida said that the lawmaker was freed through a joint operation by security forces after several days in captivity.
“The government is relieved to confirm that Hon. Samaila is in good health and high spirits.
He is also receiving all necessary support and care,” Tafida said in the statement.
Also, the police command in the state confirmed the development.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, said the lawmaker regained his freedom on Saturday at about 8:00 pm, after being held in captivity for over a week.
According to him, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, Kotarkoshi, commended the combined efforts of security operatives who took part in the rescue operation, describing their conduct as courageous and professional.
Bagudo was kidnapped in his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area on Friday, Nov. 1, shortly after observing his evening (Isha’i) prayers and leaving the mosque for his residence.
