The Kogi Government has closed down public and private schools indefinitely across the state, citing “preventive measures”.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while making enquiry on sudden school closure on Tuesday in Lokoja.
Fanwo explained that the temporary closure of schools across the state was a precautionary move aimed at safeguarding pupils, students, and teachers, following credible intelligence.
He stated that the decision was borne out of responsibility, rather than panic, emphasising the government’s commitment to protecting lives.
“The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions remains non-negotiable,” Fanwo said,
He added that Gov Ahmed Ododo’s administration prioritises lives and continuity in governance and education.
“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed relevant agencies to deploy necessary measures to ensure schools resume academic activities as soon as it’s safe, minimising disruption to the state’s academic calendar,” he said.
Fanwo commended security agencies for their timely intelligence.
The commissioner noted that effective cooperation and reassuring citizens that the government is on top of the situation, working to identify and deal with criminal hideouts. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
