Breaking: Ondo State Gov Akeredolu is dead
Gov Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, is dead.
A family source who disclosed this said that the 67-year-old Akeredolu died at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday at a German hospital where he was receiving treatment.
She said that Akeredolu died of leukemia and prostate cancer.
According to her, the two ailments had incapacitated the deceased governor for many months this year.
Also confirming the Governor’s death, a senior official of the state government, who prefers to remain anonymous, simply said: “Yes, Akeredolu has finally breathed his last.”
Akeredolu, a law graduate of the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, was first sworn in as governor on February 24, 2017.
He began the second term in February 2021, but later got plagued by illness in early 2023.
The ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany.
The late Akeredolu only recently proceeded on another leave early in December after handing over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
