Breaking: Super Eagles’ Coach Eguavoen resigns
Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, has resigned his appointment.
Eguavoen will however return to his role as Technical Director of all national teams.
Sources familiar with the development and who prefer not to be named, said Eguavoen had sent an official letter to the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and gave reasons for his decision.
In the aftermath of Nigeria’s failed World Cup bid, the sources said NFF would announce the sack of Eguavoen.
According to Brila Media, however, the embattled Coach is yet to sign the proposed two and a-half years contract for the Super Eagles job which he was handed two days before the first leg of the World Cup play-off against Ghana.
Although the Nigerian Football Federation, has yet to release an official statement, sources said that Eguavoen’s resignation was not unconnected with his disastrous handling of the national team which failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup.
