Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigerian politicians are treacherous, indulge in serial betrayals, adding that they are not dependable.
Jonathan made the remarks at the 70th birthday anniversary celebration of his former Chief-of Staff, Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Recalling his personal experience, the former president said he was betrayed during his re-election bid in 2015.
He said: “You will find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and say the same thing in the afternoon and in the evening.”
Jonathan who eventually lost the re-election, however described the celebrant as one of his most dependable friends whose loyalty is unequal.
”Oghiadomhe is one of the few friends I have who can give out their neck for me.
”I have witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially during my 2015 elections.
”And Mike is somebody who I have as one of my brothers and friends. He is one person who will take a bullet on my behalf.
”For me, he is somebody that you can take his words to the bank. Most politicians, you can not take their words to the bank,” he said.
Ogiadomen, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was a former deputy governor of Edo state and the Chief-Of Staff to Jonathan between 2010 and 2014 during the latter’s presidency.
