Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has approved the sacking of the Emirs of Zurmi and Dansadau, Atiku Abubakar and Hussaini Umar, respectively, following their indictment in banditry-related crimes.
The prominent traditional rulers were earlier suspended by the state government, following wide allegations of serious involvement in the act of banditry in the state.
Gov Matawalle’s spokesman, Zailani Bappa, in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday, added that the District Head of Birnin Tsaba, Sulaiman Ibrahim Danyabi, has similarly been sacked.
Bapoa explained that the decision was taken at a council meeting chaired by the acting governor, Hassan Nasiha, and revealed by the state commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara,
He added that the Council upheld the recommendation of a six-man White paper committee earlier set up by the Government.
The committee was mandated to review the report of two separate committees which were constituted to investigate the involvement of the three traditional rulers in the activities of banditry in the state.
The governor’s spokesman said that the findings of the committees also revealed abuse of land act in the affected traditional rulers’ domains and the Government ordered the reversal to status quo involving the lands illegally allocated by them.
