Group urges Nigerians to unite against separatists, terrorists

One Nigeria Group, a  civil society organization, has called on Nigerians to unite against the emergence of separatist and terrorist groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Boko Haram and bandits who are spreading hate and division in the country.

Muhammad Hassan, President of the group, gave the charge on Wednesday during a rally in Abuja to press home their demand against the outlawed groups.

Hassan urged Nigerians to rise up to the challange and defend Nigeria’s unity, saying the country’s unity was being threatened by IPOB, Boko Haram and wanton banditry.

He said, “Nigerians are taking this issue lightly, Nigeria’s unity is being threatened and we are all sitting back and smiling.

“When we continue to work together to build an indivisible country, such unity will benefit us all, so we should all stand against separatists and terrorists. It’s time for Nigerians to stand up and fight for what is collectively ours.

“IPOB group and their leaders are not in any way representing the interest of our Igbo  brothers and sisters living in Lagos, Kano and other parts of the country and  going about their businesses.

“Our people in the Southeast are just  being kept at home against their own will.

Hassan said that IPOB members would be given amnesty if they become repentant, adding that, “We are all Nigerians.”

Sunday Attah, a co-convener of the group, urged Nigerians to defend the sovereignty of the nation.

According to him, Nigerians have no other nation, so they should not allow some people to bring destruction upon it.

Attah said, “It is not the time to sit and watch the country go down in disunity. If we are not united, our security and economy will not grow.

“We are not against any sections, we are preaching one Nigeria. We are only against anybody that promotes anything that will bring destabilisation in the country.

“Nnamdi Kanu is anti-people, even some Southeast people are in support of what we are doing.

“They are urging us to reposition the nation and re-sensitise our people because he has brainwashed many and it hay led to lots of killings in the Southeast region.”

A patriotic Nigerian, Augustine Anthony said he came out to answer a clarion call by participating in the rally.

“I have come to identify with the group. It doesn’t matter the tribe you are, we are one Nigerians.

“Before any tribe or religion, there is humanity and we have come to answer the call of humanity. We are saying peace and one Nigeria,” he added.

One Nigeria Group is a non-political organisation that seeks to promote unity, peace and justice in the country.
