Gunmen have killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki.
Sources familiar with the incident said that Moriki was shot dead on Saturday morning while traveling on the Gusau–Tsafe highway.
It was gathered that the incident occurred near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area, while he was traveling from Gusau to Kaduna.
The state chapter of the APC, under the leadership of Tukur Danfulani, confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic loss to the party and the state.
Zamfara APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, in a statement said that prior to his untimely death, the late APC stalwart had just participated in the party’s stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
