Hamas War: Reuters reporter killed, 4 others wounded in southern Lebanon

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) says a Reuters journalist, Issam Abdullah, was killed alongside four other media workers who were wounded in southern Lebanon due to the shelling across the Israeli-Lebanon border by both sides.

The group of journalists were fired twice within a few seconds of each other, adding that it had drawn its conclusion after evaluating video recordings of the incident.

RSF stressed that the reporters could not have been mistaken for militants because they had already been standing openly with their cameras in the area for about an hour when the shelling began.

In addition, they were clearly identified as journalists by the inscription “Press” on their protective body Armour and helmets, as well as on the roof of their car.

The Israeli army, however, told German News Agency, dpa, that the incident was still under investigation.

The army stressed that it was the Shiite militia Hezbollah who had earlier fired anti-tank missiles, among other things, into Israeli territory near the village of Hanita.

IDF explained that it was only a few hours later that the army received a report that journalists had been harmed in the area.

It reiterated its warning that being in combat zones is life-threatening.
