Sen. Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau South)has awarded a full 5-year scholarship to one of his constituents, Jesse Daboer, a student of St. Augustine’s College Du, Jos South Local Government who emerged as the overall best graduand with distinction.
Lalong made the gesture during the college’s graduation ceremony on Saturday in Jos.
The former Governor of Plateau State expressed delight on the younger Daboer’s achievements for coming top in the school and getting one of the best results in the country at both WAEC and JAMB.
He said that he was particularly happy that Daboer, from Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, scored 351 in JAMB in addition to getting the maximum grade of A1 in all the subjects he sat for in WAEC.
Lalong announced a scholarship of five years for him with an annual grant of 2 million naira, in addition to other incentives.
He promised to assist in ensuring that Daboer secures admission to study his course of choice, Medicine.
The senator also commended other graduands and praised the school management and teachers for devoting their time and energy toward moulding the young minds.
According to him, they represent the future of the nation and world at large.
Also speaking, David Daser, the Chairman of the occasion and President of the Digital Bridge Institute, urged the graduands to look towards innovation, job creation and entrepreneurship by applying themselves to all round learning using ICT tools.
He launched the school year book and made a donation on behalf of himself and Sen. Lalong.
The Principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Dr. Caius Kakaba said the graduating students had proven themselves to be worthy ambassadors who are ready to face the future and contribute to the society.
He said the school would continued to maintain high standards which is taking its name to places.
Kakaba also disclosed that the overall best graduating student is also one of the students representing Nigeria at an international competition holding in the UK having qualified in the national competition.
Responding on behalf of the Parents, Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, the Managing Director, North Central Development Commission thanked the school management, parents and students for their collaboration towards ensuring that the standards were not only maintained, but elevated.
He wished the graduands well and prayed that they will find the way to greater things in life.
