Liverpool defeated Manchester City 3-1 to win the Community Shield on Saturday.

The FA Cup winners thrashed the Premier League champions in the . thrilling match played at the King Power Stadium.

Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the opening goal for Liverpool on 21 minutes.

City fought back with an equalizer on the 70th minute through Julian Alvarez.

Mohammed Salah then restored the Reds’ lead in the 83rd minute with a penalty .

This was after Ruben Dias was penalized for handling the ball inside the area.

New summer signing, Darwin Nunez extended Liverpool’s lead by heading in his first goal for the club  from close range.

The Community Shield ushers in the new Premier League season, which begins on August 5.
