A father of two has died while having an illicit affair with the wife of a well-known herbalist in the Ogoni Community in Rivers.
The woman’s husband is said to be a respected herbalist in the community.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened late in the night at a compound in which the illicit lovers carried out the act.
It was gathered that the deceased, who was a mechanic, had been secretly involved with the herbalist’s wife for months without the knowledge of her husband.
Trouble started when residents noticed unusual movements around the compound.
Then, out of curiosity, a young man peeped through the window and raised alarm after seeing the man struggling for breath while lying on top of the woman.
Before help could come, he had given up the ghost.
“At first, I thought it was a normal affair, but when I saw the man shaking and gasping, I knew something was wrong.
“We then rushed in and pulled him off her, but he was already gone,” an eyewitness said.
The woman, looking frightened and confused, explained she never expected such a thing to happen.
“We were only together for a short time, then he started shaking.
”I called his name, but he didn’t answer again,” she said.
Meanwhile, news about the incident spread like wildfire.
Angry youths stormed the herbalist’s house, accusing him of placing charms on his wife to prevent infidelity.
The herbalist, who later arrived at the scene, denied any involvement.
“I didn’t send any charm after anybody.
”If my wife decided to disgrace me, that is between her and God.
“But I cannot kill a man,” he said.
