A Family Court sitting in Calabar, on Friday sentenced a 28-year old man, Mr Uduak Aniete, to 10 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor.

In her judgment, Justice Franca Isoni found Aniete guilty, and sentenced him to prison without an option of fine.

According to the charge, the convict committed the offence in 2020 at the Nyanghasang Area of Calabar after luring the victim to an apartment with the pretext of helping her to get a job.

The claimant’s Counsel, James Ibor, said that decision on the matter was delayed because the judge went on a national assignment.

“The matter received speedy hearing, and was decided as soon as another judge was appointed,” he said.

Ibor said that the state had a proactive family court system, and that every sexual assault case was diligently prosecuted.(NAN)
