Maulud celebration: 40 persons perish in tragic accident while traveling

The two ill-fated vehicles that collided.

No fewer than forty persons traveling to Saminaka in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State for the Maulud celebration on Monday have died in a tragic road traffic accident.

Sources said that the victims of the tragedy  were traveling in a chartered J5 bus, which collided head-on with another vehicle near Saminaka.

The event organiser, Ahmad Dayyabu, told the BBC that the “overcrowded bus” collided with an oncoming truck near Lere town.

Dayyabu, said that the death toll was forty, with 31 others still receiving medical care in the hospital.

“They departed from Kwandare, heading towards Saminaka.

“When they reached Lere, a truck collided with their vehicle.

“Our investigation reveals that 71 people were on board the ill-fated bus,” he said.

An official from the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, who preferred not to be named, also confirmed the incident.
