The late Sen. Godiya Akwashiki

Sen. Godiya Akwashiki, a serving Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has died at the age of 52.
He passed away on December 31, 2025, in a hospital in India, where he had been receiving treatment after a prolonged illness.
Akwashiki was a two-term senator, first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
During his time in the National Assembly, he was known for his focus on constituency development, empowerment programmes, and grassroots engagement.
Before his election to the Senate, Akwashiki served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he rose to become Deputy Speaker.
His death has drawn tributes from political leaders and constituents, who described him as a committed public servant.
