The Police Command in Kano State says it has arrested three people suspected of being involved in the brutal killing of a mother and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano city.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the police, the suspects include the deceased woman’s nephew and two other alleged accomplices.
The arrests followed a special intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, under the supervision of the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested during a raid conducted between 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Those arrested include Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu area; Isyaku Yakubu, popularly known as “Chebe,” 40, from Sagagi area; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as “Wawo,” 21, from Sabon Gida Sharada area.
The police disclosed that the alleged mastermind of the killing, Umar Auwalu—who is a relative of the deceased woman—confessed to committing the crime.

He also revealed that they had carried out other violent killings in different parts of Kano in recent times.
Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a machete, a wooden club, money suspected to have been taken from the scene of the crime, and other dangerous weapons. The police said investigations are ongoing.

The Command commended the officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their prayers, support, and cooperation.
It also reassured the public of its determination to ensure that all criminal suspects are brought to justice.
