Shock as Abuja Catholic priest vanishes without trace
The Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja has been thrown into apprehension as one of its priests, Rev. Fr. Samson Emokhidi has gone missing.
This is contained in a statement issued by the chancery signed by Fr. Sam Tumba, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, and addressed to “All Priests, Religious, and Lay Faithful.”
It said Fr. Emokhidi disappeared without trace after leaving his residence at 8:45 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2023, leaving everyone in suspense, as there has been no communication or sign of whereabouts since his disappearance.
The statement said the Archbishop and the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese called on the entire Archdiocesan family to remember Fr. Samson in their prayers.
According to the statement, the priest’s disappearance had been reported to the local authorities, who have initiated an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
It further urged anyone with any information about Fr. Emokhidi’s whereabouts to come forward and contact the Chancery or the relevant authorities.
“The Archbishop and the Auxiliary Bishop seek the support and prayers of the entire Archdiocese family during this trying time.
“The Chancellor, Fr. Tumba, wish to state that efforts to locate the missing priest are ongoing, and updates would be provided as soon as any new information emerges.
“The Archdiocese stands united in prayer, hoping for a resolution to this distressing situation and the safe return of the beloved priest,” the statement concluded.
Periscope International reports that the FCT Police Command had yet to officially react to the missing priest’s incident and could not immediately be reached for comments prior to the filing of this story.
