President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller General (CGC) of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi.
This is contained in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Presidential spokesman, on Thursday.
Adeniyi’s tenure, which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, has been extended by one year.
According to the statement, the extension is to enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of the Tinubu administration.
The initiatives include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service and the implementation of the National Single Window Project.
Others are the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol, among others.
President Tinubu is said to have recognised the steadfast leadership and commitment to service of Adeniyi, who was recently elected as the President of World Customs Organisation (WCO).
“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” Onanuga said.
