U.S. President Donald Trump and the American military are considering the establishment of strategic military bases in Nigeria.

The plan is seen as a bold move aimed at strengthening regional security in West Africa, which the Tinubu may likely consider as a soft landing and better option to a unilateral operation by the U.S.

Sources said that the proposed locations include Konduga in Borno State, Enugu in the southeast, and Riyom in Plateau State, central Nigeria.

These bases, if approved, would serve as operational hubs for deploying advanced military equipment and personnel to assist in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping that have plagued parts of Nigeria for years.

The initiative is said to be part of a broader international effort to curb the spread of extremist violence across the Sahel and Lake Chad regions.

While the Nigerian government has yet to confirm or deny the proposal, sources close to the matter indicate that discussions are ongoing, with emphasis on respecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensuring mutual cooperation.

Security analysts believe that such a partnership could enhance intelligence sharing, improve tactical operations, and provide logistical support to Nigerian forces battling insurgents in the northeast and criminal gangs in other regions.
