The police in the U.S. have arrested a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, in the shooting to death of Charlie Kirk, an American conservative activist on Wednesday.

31-year-old Kirk, a father of two kids, who was shot in the neck during a speech at Utah Valley University, is a political ally of President Donald Trump.

It was gathered that Kirk’s father, Matt Robinson, turned him in to authorities after his suspect son confessed to being responsible for the gruesome murder of Kirk.

Earlier on Friday, President Trump had confirmed on a Fox News interview that authorities had already apprehended a suspect in the killing.

“I think we’re in great shape. He’s in custody.

“Essentially somebody that was very close to him turned him in,” Trump had said.

The president further said: “But you know, the facts are the facts. We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for.

“But they drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now,” Trump said. “… I hope he gets the death penalty.”

On Thursday, authorities released several images of a man believed to be the suspect, asked for help identifying him offering a 100,000 dollars bounty.

The shooter was approximately 200 yards away from Kirk during his speech, authorities said.

Quickly afterward, graphic videos of the incident began circulating on social media.

Further speaking with Fox News on Friday, Trump said that he didn’t watch any of them.

He said: “I didn’t watch, I didn’t want to watch, I heard about it.

“I would have never made a good doctor. Let me put it that way.

“No, I mean … I heard enough.”
