Rep Beni Lar, Member, Federal House of Representatives, Langtang North, Langtang South Constituency, has won a record fifth term in office in the National Assembly following Saturday’s elections.
The results were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof Jonathan Daboer of the University of Jos.
Daboer announced that Lar, the PDP candidate, polled 42,008 votes against her closest rival, Mr Vincent Venmak of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 21,345 and declared her the winner.
Lar also defeated Mr Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Sports during President Buhari’s first tenure, who contested the election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP and polled 3369 votes.
Venmak, a Lalong acolyte, who is popularly known as Money in the Booth because of his penchant for generous giving to the poor and needy, is the present chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area.
He had defeated Mr Nandom Pyennap, a former Chairman, Langtang North LGA, one time House of Assembly member and Lalong loyalist, to clinch the APC Reps ticket for the constituency during the party’s primary elections conducted last year.
Lar, is a lawyer and daughter of Chief Solomon Lar, the first civilian governor of old Plateau State and founding National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
She was a presidential aide to former President Olusegun Obasanjo before successfully contesting and winning elections to the green chambers.
