Obi will challenge Tinubu’s victory in court, says Baba-Ahmed
The vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Sen Datti Baba-Ahmed, has assured that the party would test the validity of the victory of Sen Bola Tinubu in court following the outcome of Saturday’s elections.
Baba-Ahmed made this known during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Bola Tinubu as the winner of Saturday’s exercise.
He assured the supporters of LP’s intention to seek legal redress while calling for calm, and insisted that the election was not free and fair.
Obi’s running mate, who said that his principal would speak on the election in due course, urged supporters to vote for the party in next week’s governorship and the house of assembly polls.
The LP chieftain stressed that the party has rejected the polls amid the claim of its supporters that the exercise was compromised.
He urged the judiciary to prove themselves to be impartial when the case gets to the court, wondering how the results for the presidential and National Assembly elections were collated when they weren’t transmitted electronically.
Baba-Ahmed noted that no amount of pressure would get the Labour Party or its agents to preach against peace, adding that despite the outcome of the poll, they still have hope in Nigeria.
“The Labour Party will continue to hold the President Muhammadu Buhari administration accountable for a free and credible election and remains optimistic of a great outing come March 11 when the guber and house of assembly exercise takes place,” he said.
He dismissed speculations about a possible plan merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party was fighting for its mandate alone.
