Police arraign driver for alleged attempt to kidnap his boss

The police on Thursday arraigned a 33-year-old driver, Genesis Odey, before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to abduct his boss.

Odey, of behind Dunamis Church, New Karu, Nasarawa State, is standing trial for attempting to abduct his employer, Mr Michael Numa, upon his arrival in Nigeria from London.

Odey was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on attempting to committ offence and abduction.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Edwin Inegbenoise, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 11, 2022.

He said that the matter was reported at the Mabushi Police Station, Abuja on Oct. 16, 2023 by the nominal complainant, Numa of N0. 44 Contess Court Estate, Mabushi.

According to Inegbenoise, the complainant received a call while in London from one Michael Innocent that Odey was ploting to abduct him on his arrival in Nigeria.

He said that Odey had a discussion with Innocent at AWEED Hotel, One Man Village, Karu, Nassarawa, on the alleged plot of abduction.

The prosecutor further said that the aim of the plot was to get a large sum of money from the lawyer out of the money he had just been paid from a case he prosecuted in Delta State.

Inegbenoise further said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 93 and 274 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Huzaifa Maccido ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Keffi Correctional Centre.

He adjourned the case until March 15 for  mention.
