The Plateau State University Bokkos will soon commence its degree program in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).
Ag. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shedrack Best announced this while receiving a report from the Chairman of fifteen-member Technical Advisory Committee on the Commencement of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in the institution, Prof. Simon Yiltok.
Best lauded the commitment displayed by members of the committee, which comprises members from various fields of medicine, including surgery, pharmaceuticals and Health sciences.
He appreciated the committee for doing a fantastic job within a short period, and urged them to go beyond the submission of the report by working toward immediately kickstarting the program.
Best assured that the Plateau State government was committed to ensuring the immediate commencement and success of the program.
He also assured that all efforts would be put in place toward its success, adding that he had enjoyed the goodwill of the professionals in the committee since their inauguration.
“We will sort out the issues that need executive approval and forward to the governor.
“We are in sync with the issue of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital being the designated Teaching Hospital for this program.
“I believe that the governor will be open to the best ideas that will make this program right,” he said.
Earlier, while submitting the report, Prof Yiltok, told the VC that the committee met severally, visited the school to inspect infrastructure on ground.
He said that the committee also went through similar reports and came to the conclusion that the Plateau State Specialist Hospital be upgraded to serve as the institution’s Teaching Hospital.
“We reviewed the theme knowing full well that these are programs that are highly sought after by candidates.
“From my experience at the University of Jos, I know that Medicine, Nursing and Medical Lab are the top three courses that most applicants go for,” he said.
