Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s security challenges, arguing that the President should not be blamed solely for the widespread insecurity.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met Gov. Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and party leaders, Yari drew a comparison with former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general?” he asked.
“Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country.”
The visit was part of the APC’s mobilisation for the 2027 general elections.
Yari commended Gov. Idris and party leaders for their efforts, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
He said the campaign council would work with all individuals and groups committed to the President’s re-election.
On the economy, Yari acknowledged the hardship Nigerians are facing but said it was not peculiar to the country, noting that inflation had declined and fertiliser prices had reduced.
He pointed to federal measures including cash transfers to vulnerable households, and cited the United States and Saudi Arabia as examples of countries still grappling with national concerns.
He also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, saying insecurity requires collective responsibility alongside government efforts.
Gov. Idris described the delegation’s visit as a welcome development and reaffirmed Kebbi’s support for the President, citing federal projects benefiting the state
“We have no reason not to support the President,” he said. “We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu.”
