Election: EFCC storms Tinubu, Shetima’s polling units, others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the polling unit of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Tinubu’s polling unit is located on Awolowo Road, Falomo, Lagos State.

The operatives also stormed the polling unit of the vice-presidential candidate of APC, Senator Kashim Shetima.

They however did not disclose their motive to inquisitive journalists who were present at the polling units of the political gladiators.

Also, operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) raided some areas in Kaduna shortly before the commencement of the elections.

Periscope International recalls that on the eve of the elections, the EFCC announced the seizure of $498,100 (worth about N250 million) from Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives, along Ana Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Igwe was alleged to have confessed to the EFCC operatives that the  money belonged to his political ally, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, meant for vote buying.

Also on Saturday, EFCC operatives intercepted the movement of N32.4 million allegedly for vote buying in Bauchi State.

One man was also arrested with N2 million being transported from Bauchi to Gombe state, on behalf of an undisclosed politician.

The anti corruption agency’s Bauchi State  office which announced the suspect’s arrest said it had taken into custody the suspect, one Hassan Ahmad.

He was said to be found in possession of the cash in both old and new currencies, packed in a “Ghana Must Go” bag.

The money comprised six bundles of one-thousand-naira new notes of N600,000; six bundles of five-hundred-naira new notes of N300,000, and old two-hundred-naira notes of N1.1 million.

The EFCC said on its official Twitter handle. that the suspect had confessed to its operatives that the funds were being moved to Gombe State for a an unnamed politician.
